Dr. Steven  Rice is a native of St. Cloud and a graduate of St. Cloud Cathedral High School. He received his B.A. degree from St. Mary's University where he graduated egregia cum laude. He received his M.D. from Mayo Medical School where he studied and published research in the field of corneal physiology. Dr. Steven Rice completed a sub-internship in Ophthalmology at The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency training in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery at The University of Minnesota in 1987. While at the University of Minnesota he published scientific articles on refractive surgery of the cornea and diabetic eye disease. He was recognized with the Outstanding Teacher Award in 1986. Dr. Steven Rice has been practicing Ophthalmology in St. Cloud since 1987. He specializes in microscopic and laser surgery of the eye including: sutureless cataract surgery, glaucoma, corneal transplantation, laser surgery for diabetes and retinal disease and Laser Vision Correction. Dr. Rice was the first St. Cloud physician to perform LASIK and has been actively involved in Laser Vision Correction since 1997, helping hundreds of patients become less dependent on glasses or contacts. He is fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology.
